This occupation is found in a range of settings which can include day nurseries, playgroups, nursery schools, pre-schools, kindergartens, primary schools, hospitals, social care settings, out of school environments and local authority provision. The broad purpose of the occupation is to be a proactive and influential practitioner, working directly with children, skilfully leading day to day practice at an operational level. As active practitioners they are effective role models of play based learning, supporting others to develop their own practice.
They are highly skilled professionals who take an operational lead for the care, learning and development of all young children within their care, adapting to individual needs providing inclusive and holistic provision. They engage with sector developments both locally and nationally, with a commitment to developing their own professional and educational competencies.. In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with children aged birth to eight years, families, practitioners, other professionals and appropriate agencies
An employee in this occupation will be responsible for supporting the quality of learning and development in their setting. They lead on the operational aspects of this provision and are typically responsible for leading other practitioners, an aspect or environment such as; Communication and Language, Planning and Assessment, Forest School, Physical Activity and Nutrition. They usually report directly to the head of the setting (The Manager, The Leader, The Director).
Levy businesses can use their contributions to pay for this training. The costs will be £8,000.
Non-levy paying business may not incur a cost for this training. If the employee on this programme is under 19 years of age and your business has less than 50 employees, there will be no cost for the training.
If the learner is over 19 years of age and/or your business has over 50 employees then you will contribute 5% towards the cost of the training, which would be £400 for this programme.

This qualification is recognised through the Northern Council for Further Education, commonly known as NCFE and the Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education or CACHE.
A dedicated tutor will support learners and employers throughout the programme from the very first step through to their “End Point Assessment” or EPA.
Workshops and assignments are used to give learners the opportunity to get to hands-on experience grips with new skills and approaches outlined in the programme syllabus.
Our tutors will conscientiously arrange training around the requirements of both learners and employers.
Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed to provide employers with fresh talent whilst giving employees the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their roles.
Apprenticeships are for existing staff and for new recruits – not just for younger school leavers.
Through a combination of on-the-job and off-the-job training, learners will continue to work and earn a living while applying higher level techniques to their roles, increasing productivity and competence.
